Dear Editor,
I am the parent of a third grader in the Meridian School District. My husband and I moved our family to Meridian five years ago because we care about our kids’ education and we wanted to be sure our daughter had the best educational opportunities as possible.
As an Idaho taxpayer, mother, and voter, I am angry at what our legislature has done to our public schools these past few years.
I am incensed that lawmakers chose to cut critical education funding when they had other options. I am irritated that our representatives continue to make irrational decisions about my child’s future.
Enough is enough! My child deserves better and so does every other child in every community in this state. We must reinvest in our schools so that our children have the education they need to compete in the worldwide economy.
Please join me by contacting your legislators and demanding that they step up, be the leaders they were expected to be, and support better funding for our schools!
Dear Editor,
I recently attended a community meeting and learned that Idaho has the 6th largest class sizes. Our state ranks 47th lowest in the nation for the amount we spend per student, and Idaho teachers are paid the 41st lowest salaries in the country.
Do we really think these statistics will help us encourage big businesses to move to Idaho? Let’s face it. We are shortchanging our kids’ future. We’re also setting our state up to continue to struggle to rebuild our economy.
They have the power to ensure our schools have the tools they need help our kids succeed. I will be contacting my legislators and telling them I expect them to do more to change these dismal statistics. I hope you’ll join me.
Dear Editor,
I recently joined a small group of citizens who are concerned about the future of our state’s public schools.
We discussed the dismal decisions our legislature made about funding for our public schools. Did you know our school district will be facing the prospect of cutting more than $3 million from our budget for next school year?
Poorly funded public schools will make it harder for our kids to compete in the worldwide economy. We must reinvest in our schools and focus on the future. Only then will we be able to leave behind a positive legacy we can all be proud of.
Our group has agreed to continue meeting to discuss actions we can take to make our legislators aware that we expect them to stop the cuts to public schools. I invite you to join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, April 28th at the Community Center at 6:30.
Together, we can make our voices heard and protect our children, our schools, and our state’s future.
